Changing the Equation: Redesigning Developmental Math

Assessing the Results Workshop: August 7, 2012

This workshop will be held at the Four Points by Sheraton BWI Airport Hotel in Baltimore, Maryland. The purpose of the workshop is to share experiences, exchange ideas and to receive feedback from the group as well as from NCAT staff and scholars. Each participating institution is expected to send four representatives to this workshop, and attendees are responsible for their own travel and lodging expenses.

Agenda

Presentation Format

Each team should select one representative to spend 15 minutes describing your project outcomes. That will allow about 10 minutes of Q&A and discussion after each presentation.

Spend 5 minutes on 4 slides

Slide 1: Give the audience a brief introduction to the background of your project, including your institution’s name and location, the course names (please don't use course numbers), annual enrollment, the traditional and the redesigned course structure.

Slide 2: Summary of comparative student learning outcomes

Slide 3: Summary of comparative student completion rates

Slide 4: Summary of cost savings for your institution and for students

Spend 5 minutes on course completion rates using slides as needed

Analyze and discuss why your completion rates increased, stayed the same or declined and what you intend to do in the future to address this issue.

Spend 5 minutes on other implementation issues using slides as needed

Looking back on implementing your redesign, what worked best and what worked least well?  What were the greatest challenges (other than completion) that you faced and what did you do/what do you plan to do to meet them?

Lodging: A block of rooms has been reserved at the Four Points by Sheraton at the rate of $110/night. The deadline for making a reservation at this rate is July 17.

Note the hotel's Debit Card Payment Policy: When using debit cards at check-in, a hold in the amount of room and tax of 13% plus $40 incidentals multiplied by the number of room nights will be charged to the guest's card. This hold will be released 5 to 7 days after check-out.

Note the hotel offers a courtesy shuttle to and from BWI Airport. To be picked up at the airport, use the phones located in baggage claim to call for the Four Points by Sheraton shuttle. When you are ready to return to the airport, check with the hotel concierge at least 15 minutes before your departure to arrange for shuttle service.
