Sustainability

Tallahassee Community College

Will the redesign be sustained now that the grant period is over?

While still a work in progress, the redesign is now fully implemented and serves as a model for other courses. The team continues to refine and evaluate the redesign, but all sections of College Composition are now implementing all of the technology-based components, as well as the curriculum and related strategies and assignments. The team is now planning for the redesign of second level English courses and many of the redesign features are already being piloted in those courses. Additionally, the dual enrollment courses taught in the local high schools are teaching the redesigned course.

The College is providing ongoing support for the redesign through the acquisition of additional computers and related software, providing reassigned time for team members to coordinate the program and mentor adjuncts and new faculty, and providing the resources for SMARTHINKING.

As the College develops its Quality Enhancement Plan in response to SACS Accreditation, the redesigned course serves as a model for incorporating active learning techniques, fostering higher order thinking skills, and developing learning communities.
